Science at the heart of… Edinburgh!
Each year, Edinburgh International Science Festival is proud to present a large scale outdoor photography exhibition free of charge for all to enjoy. As a not for profit education charity we rely on donations to help secure the future of our work. A donation of £5 will allow us to develop more accessible events and exhibitions within Edinburgh.
This year, our exhibition 'Living Lights' explores, through a series of 56 beautiful and striking full-colour images, the emission of light by living organisms. Many organisms, particularly marine organisms, possess one or more truly amazing attributes - fluorescence, bioluminescence and phosphoresce. Living Lights examines the many ways scientists currently use bioluminescence and fluorescence in research, and the important implications this has for medical research and clinical diagnosis.
Launched at the start of April 2014 and running for just under nine months, 'Living Lights' will be the flagship event of the 2014 Edinburgh International Science Festival. Free, highly engaging and open 24 hours a day, the exhibition will provide a valuable platform for interaction with new audiences, especially those with limited knowledge of science and technology. It will form the main focus of our ongoing efforts to make science and technology accessible to those not necessarily engaged with, or targeted by, most traditional science communication activity.
