Martin Crossley Evans was a key part of Heswall Disabled Children's Holiday Fund since volunteering in 1973. He was Camp Leader from 1982 to 2005 and offered support and advice throughout his life. We are honoured to receive donations in memory of his service to the charity he held close to his heart for over 50 years.
As a student, academic and Warden at the University of Bristol volunteering at the camp was a key element of the pastoral care he provided, with experience invaluable to their personal and professional development. Many still offer regular support and former Bristol students are trustees developing a new camp to support disabled children in the South West, something Martin was very proud to support.
As Camp Leader Martin had a positive impact on the lives of many disabled children and volunteers. He was naturally supportive with infinite patience for children who needed his help. Martin was warm, kind and often mischievous. Generations of children and helpers have a place in their hearts for Martin's renditions of My Grandfather's Clock and Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West).
The children and volunteers were dear to Martin and he proved the positive impact on their lives through care, compassion and great experiences.
Donations in memory of Martin will help to create free summer camps in Wirral and Somerset. We will continue to support Bristol students to volunteer and have plans to offer more opportunities for disabled children and young people.
