In light of the recent government announcement to limit groups to a maximum of 6 it seemed sensible for us to change our arrangements.
We are asking participants to raise sponsorship and complete their walk or cycle in their own time from a destination of their choosing, track the distance on phones and send in photos of themselves and the route travelled. (We did this with the Bath Half earlier this year and it worked well) This way participants can still get involved, raise sponsorship and get active.
So over the next month all 5 of us are going to walk and walk; and collectively aim to achieve a 50 miles distance. We want to raise money for Keynsham Mencap who have supported local people with a learning disability to keep in touch with friends and enjoy some physically distanced fun and social activities.
COVID-19 has had such a huge impact on all of us but for people with a learning disability and their families this has been a particularly tough time. Despite club closures Keynsham Mencap made a commitment early on in lockdown to reinvent itself and continue to help its members.
As the restrictions continue it is not clear when it will be safe to open up all the clubs again and these guys still need help and support; the only way this can continue is to raise money that will pay to keep the COVID safe (virtual) activities going.
