Despite the fact that girls in education perform better than boys, women are still more likely to be in low paid and low skilled jobs. In fact, in the UK 80% of those working in the low paid care and leisure sector are women. Men are twice as likely to be a manager, director or senior official and women also make up a smaller proportion of business owners than men - only 20% of all businesses in the UK are majority female owned. The challenge is, that some schools are proactive in providing the information required to consider a broad and ambitious range of careers, however, many are not. In 2013, Ofsted reported that ‘only one in five schools were effective in ensuring that all students were receiving the level of information they needed’.
Modern Muse shows girls the variety of exciting careers available by showcasing female role models (Muses) and the companies they work for. The Muses’ stories and work-related posts inform girls about the working world and where their subject choices may lead. Girls can also ask questions to get practical advice and access career opportunities that the companies offer.
Can you support us to fund the campaign to reach 1 Million girls by 2020 and drive the continual development of the platform so we're able to engage girls everywhere and inspire them to follow the careers of their dreams? Thank you for your support.
