Clayton Wagons ahoy!
The unique opportunity to own the last in the run of each of the limited edition 00-gauge wagons commissioned from Dapol by the Clayton & Shuttleworth Heritage team. The first two wagons were commissioned in 2017 by the C&S Heritage Team to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the formation of Clayton and Shuttleworth in 1842. The first wagon (100 of 100) is a standard five plank open goods wagon, as illustrated in the Clayton Wagons 1920 catalogue. The second wagon (100 of 100) is a box van, typical of the type that would have delivered materials to the C&S works at Stamp End and also to ship smaller products around the country. The colour scheme and lettering are based on a surviving C&S living van, on display at the Collection. Following the sell-out success of these editions, two further models were commissioned: a covered goods wagon (200 of 200), based on one built by Claytons Wagons as part of contract for 100 wagons for the Great Eastern Railway in 1919. The final wagon commissioned (187 of 187) took inspiration from the founder of the Collection, Richard Shuttleworth. In 1935, Richard formed the Aeronautical Advertising Company to trial advertising using neon lights affixed to an aircraft that would fly over London at night. The model uses the design of the company letterhead as the inspiration to represent what a wagon contracted to this company may have looked like had the idea ‘taken off’.
Your lot also includes a Hornby R1157 West Coast Highlander Train Set for you to run these carriages on, whilst you finish your scratch built layout depicting the Clayton Wagons’ Abbey Works, Titanic Works and Clayton Forge….
