The summer - or Britain's version of it - is well and truly here. And the longer, warmer days allow for plenty of opportunities to enjoy our exciting city. Whether it be an evening drink outside with friends, or a BBQ with family, or a picnic in one of London's many fantastic parks, we know how to get the most out of this splendid season.
But imagine that you had no one to share in the summer with. That there wasn't that BBQ invite waiting for you. That you lacked the connections and company to not only soak up the sun, but also to enjoy share in it.
That's the reality that faces many of our older neighbours across this city. Two in five older people say that TV is their main form of company. 17% of older people are in contact with friends, family and neighbours less than once a week, and 11% are in contact less than once a month.
You can see why some of our older neighbours don’t get as excited about the summer as we may.
But you have the power to change that for so many of our older neighbours in our home city.
South London Cares are hoping to raise £6,000 to give our older neighbours a summer to remember. Your generosity could help us run 50 social clubs over the summer months, and bring joy to 60 older and younger Love Your Neighbour friends.
This year, we plan for a more vibrant and more dynamic summer programme of activities than ever before. We want to help older neighbours to make the most of London during the summer – to feel connected to the world around them, rather than left behind by it.
Through our network we can bring activities like tea parties, dances, theatre visits, BBQs and more to our neighbours who might otherwise be stuck inside.
With your help, those ambitions will become a reality.
