Stills is a centre for photography that was established in 1977. We are a registered charity based in the heart of the City of Edinburgh.

Stills is one of the oldest photography venues in the UK and the only dedicated centre for photography in Edinburgh. Our mission is to provide opportunity and support for the advancement, discovery, enjoyment, exploration and understanding of photography. Since 1977, our acclaimed exhibition programme has featured work by many of the key figures in the history of photography. Our photographic darkrooms and digital facilities are suitable for courses, single-users, tutorials and workshops. Over 20,000 people a year visit Stills. We play a leading strategic role within a network of organisations supporting photography in the UK and we are a key contributor to Scotland’s celebrated reputation as a centre for contemporary visual art.
