In November 2015, Stills will host the Jill Todd Photographic Award for the first time. The aim of the award is to promote early careers in photography. It is open to all Fine Art and Photography graduates from Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The award was set up to commemorate Jill Todd, a young photographer who tragically died in 2010. Jill graduated with a degree in Photography and Film from Edinburgh Napier University in 2009 and undertook an internship at Stills. When she died, Jill was at the beginning of a blossoming career in photography. The award takes the form of a competition, with applicants being asked to submit a body of work of between 5 and 12 images for consideration. 3 winning artists and a selection of commended entrants will be selected to exhibit their work at Stills. With the help of Donate, we will offer increased financial support for the exhibiting finalists, transforming the personal and professional development opportunities available to them. Our target is to raise a total of £5000 by Monday 14th September. The money raised will be shared amongst the shortlisted exhibitors, giving them the chance to: • Undertake more research to invest more time in the development of the work that they produce. • Increase the scale and ambition of the professional production, mounting and framing of their work. • Travel to and from Edinburgh for award events such as the photographic lecture, master class, exhibition launch and award ceremony.
