Scotland

Thirlestane Castle is a magnificent 16th Century Castle located in the Scottish Borders.

Family Home to the Duke of Lauderdale, the Castle is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland. The history of the ground upon which Thirlestane Castle now stands dates back to at least the 12th Century. The central part of the present castle was completed in 1590, remodelled in the 1670s and then enlarged in the 1840s. Today, the Castle is open to visitors who can enjoy a guided tour of the building and the collections, including a Toy Museum, which features Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian toys. The castle also hosts a small number of weddings and public events each year. Thirlestane Castle Trust is a Charity established to care for and secure the long-term future of the Castle, grounds and its collections. Every penny from donations, event and visitor income goes directly into helping to preserve this wonderful building and its unique history and heritage for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations.
