A World With Friends will be a 3D virtual world where children will be able to use their avatars to meet-up, talk, laugh and have fun.
A World With Friends is the new name for the charity previously named Friend Finder. It was founded by Lewis Hine when he was 14 years old after a brain tumour, hydrocephalus and drug-resistant epilepsy left him missing school and not having the opportunity to make friends. He wanted to reduce the isolation and loneliness of children with chronic illness and disabilities by helping them to make friends by putting on activities, proms and other events acrodd the UK. It highlighted a problem, and with 77% of young people with a disability reporting feeling lonely it was something Lewis wanted to change. Friend Finder was needed and was working but with daily messages from children and teenagers around the world Lewis realised the problem was actually at a global scale. Friend Finder was no longer big enough to address this audience and Lewis realised he needed to create A World With Friends.
