We aim to reduce the gap between food poverty and food waste using surplus supermarket food to create tasty, healthy meals.

Cafe ReCharge is a  Surplus Food Pay What You Can Cafe in Galashiels.  We believe that nobody should go hungry when there is so much surplus food going to waste.  We use food collected from local supermarkets that would otherwise go to landfill to produce tasty meals served in our friendly café.  We suggest prices but all food is served on a pay what you can basis; payment is anonymous so customers can put in what they can afford.  With prices rising more people than ever are struggling to afford even the basics.  And not being able to afford a meal in a café, or even a cup of coffee, isn't just about food insecurity, it can lead to social isolation and low self-worth. We value all our customers equally, whatever their circumstances. We want to be able to continue to welcome everyone to Café ReCharge, regardless of their financial situation.  £3 will buy a coffee and a cake, £5 a sandwich and a drink, and £10 will allow us to provide a meal, drink and pudding.
