Comfort International is raising funds for the Comfort Transformation Centre:
A PURPOSE BUILT CENTRE TO ALLOW CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND VULNERABLE YOUNG MUMS TO ESCAPE POVERTY, ABUSE OR ADDICTION AND REBUILD THEIR LIVES FOR A BETTER FUTURE.
A safe place for restoring significance.
Ex-Street Kids: Many children that we find living on the streets have left their homes for a number of reasons including extreme poverty and hunger, family bereavement or violence at home. When they come from caring homes and the main issue is poverty and hunger then personal sponsorship opens the door for them to return to their family. Where parents have died, there is violence at home or the children have become addicted to drugs or perhaps involved in gangs then it makes sense for them to be re-sensitized in a caring and safe environment away from the negative influences. One of the roles of the Comfort Transformation Centre will be to provide the safe environment for this to happen, usually for up to a year.
Vulnerable Mums and Babies: The Comfort Babies project supports vulnerable mums and their babies. The Comfort Transformation Centre project will include a separate home for the most vulnerable mums and babies on the Comfort Babies project, a place where they can feel safe and supported as they work towards self-sufficiency.
Facilities for living, learning, meeting and play.
We expect the centre to have onsite accommodation for up to 80 children plus ‘house mamas’. This will include bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms and cooking facilities. There will also be facilities to aid learning such as a library and computer facilities. There will be a meeting room to host larger gatherings so that non-residents may join together for meetings, teaching and events. A home specifically for vulnerable young mums and their babies who are part of the Comfort Babies project will be built detached from the main building. We are hoping that the land will be able to accommodate an area for sports and recreation.
And what else?
After the initial phase of this project it is hoped that we will be able to build some smaller homes which will accommodate, in particular orphaned ex-street kids into family units. We would also like to include a facility to provide food for very poor non-residents.
