Elephant Family

London

Elephant Family is a small, dynamic NGO on a mission to save a forgotten species from extinction.

Asian elephants are the underdogs of elephant conservation, receiving a fragment of the media and financial attention of their African cousins, despite being outnumbered 10:1. We look out for both elephants and human families, funding pioneering solutions through a network of first class conservation partners, empowering local experts rather than imposing Western ideas on field operations. Massive loss of habitat has caused Asian elephant numbers to plummet by 90% in the last 100 years, earning them an unwanted place on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species. Since its inception in 2003, Elephant Family has doubled the amount of money going into Asian elephant conservation and has supported over 180 field projects across six Asian elephant range states: India, Thailand, Indonesia (Sumatra), Malaysia (Borneo), Myanmar and Cambodia. Over the past 15 years, we have been shining a multi coloured spotlight on their plight via high profile public art campaigns such as Elephant Parade, Travels to my elephants, The Big Egg Hunt and the Survival Tour. The funds raised from the sale of the lantana herd will be used to support conservation programmes that address these issues and offer innovative and sustainable long-term solutions.
