Hamlin Fistula UK is dedicated to restoring the health and dignity of women in Ethiopia with the horrendous childbirth injury obstetric fistula.
We are part of the Hamlin family of charities, founded by pioneering surgeons Reg and Catherine Hamlin in Ethiopia. Catherine and Reg discovered the overwhelming numbers of women suffering the terrible plight of fistula in the 1960s and realised that little to nothing was being done to help them. They established the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital to help these women and it has now treated more than 60,000 patients.
Today the organisation in Ethiopia includes five regional hospitals, the Hamlin College of Midwives and Desta Mender, a rehabilitative farm and training centre for patients.
We believe in a world without maternal death, birth injuries or obstetric fistula and support Hamlin Ethiopia to work towards this vision.
