Keynsham Mencap Holiday Rescue
In September this year members of Keynsham Mencap were enjoying their first group holiday together for 2 years in Cornwall when one of their 2 minibus’s broke down. The recovery services could not fix the problem and the bus needed to go back to the dealer garage for repairs.
A second holiday taking another group of members on holiday to Devon was planned for a month later. The repairs to the broken down minibus were going to be some time, the charity now only had one working minibus; cancelling the holiday really wasn’t an option; this holiday had already been postponed once and rebooked for later in the year due to the pandemic. It was crucial that a mini bus had to be hired to take the 16 members, 6 volunteers and their luggage on holiday.
The additional costs associated with the crucial repairs and mini bus hire are now over £2000. This is a cost that wasn’t budgeted for; along with a drop in income experienced over the pandemic it is now an urgent requirement to replenish these funds to ensure plans for Christmas activities will not be affected and scaled down.
