Over the last 3 years the School of Public Services have been supporting students with a range of food initiatives ranging from breakfast clubs, food donation collection points and providing food bank vouchers to local services. Preparing our learners to support, understand and promote our local communities is vital to ensuring that our next generation will no longer need resources such as food banks to support them in education. Prior to the Christmas break before the COVID lockdowns we trialled our first food bank collections. Many of you kindly supported us and we were able to provide packages to over 40 families. Unfortunately, we recognised that the donations didn't allow for beneficiaries to create a varied, balanced diet, especially if you don’t like chick peas!!
How does the campaign work?
We have launched the campaign, this means that we are in a fundraising phase to collect as much money as we can to support the service that we are going to provide. 30 days after the donation is made, this money becomes available for us to access and purchase food.
We plan to start donations following the Christmas break. A referral form will be circulated and we can start to process emergency packages.
Where does your money go?
All the money raised will be used to purchase nutritionally balanced and culturally appropriate food items and other provisions our learners need to attend college.
We are also in communication with a number of supermarkets to match fund our pot of money to enable us to offer our services to more students.
Thank you to the amazing support from HR, especially Gill Murray, Alison Kwan & Mala Dhillon for their enormous amount of effort to ensure we can provide this service.
