The National Paralympic Heritage Trust was established to share and protect the fascinating stories of British Paralympic Heritage.

The National Paralympic Heritage Trust was established to bring to life British Paralympic Heritage, and its stories of human endeavour. Tour the National Paralympic Heritage Centre to learn about the origins of the Paralympic Games. From modest beginnings in the 1940’s at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Professor Sir Ludwig Guttmann encouraged wounded veterans to play sport to support their rehabilitation from spinal injuries. This led to local competitions, later becoming the Stoke Mandeville Games; and what is now recognised as the Paralympic Games. Interactive displays celebrate the history of the Paralympics, showcasing the determination and vision that gave the world the Paralympic Games, and challenge negative attitudes towards disability.
