Bowden Theatre Works is much more than a Performing Arts School. BTW help build characters, one child at a time at New Mills Art Theatre offering classes in musical theatre and acting. We believe our local youth are the best hope we have for the future, and so BTW exists to equip them with the life skills, character, and relationships for a bright future of positive impact.
Musical theatre just happens to be a very effective and very fun way to help children develop confidence, empathy, responsibility, teamwork, self-awareness, artistry, and so much more.
Its no secret. The love children and young people have for theatre often carries through into adult life.
Stewart and Natalie Bowden, who run Bowden Theatre Works at New Mills Art Theatre say: “We are really proud of the work we do. We are active members of New Mills Art Theatre and New Mills Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, and it is nice to give something back in return".
Getting youth involved in theatre doesn’t just serve the children, it serves the greater good. By giving children an opportunity to work on characters, memorise lines, and dig deep into plots, themes, and choices, they’re also strengthening critical thinking skills. Stewart Bowden continues “The highest level of critical thinking is the ability to form an opinion and be able to discuss the finer points of why.”
"Me and Nat want to promote our love of theatre to the next generation of performers, backstage artists, technicians and theatregoers – providing young people the opportunity to explore their full potential and get heard. That's why we are supporting New Mills Art Theatre, and the beautiful gem of a theatre we can call home".
