New Mills Art Theatre are delighted to announce their project to install a new defibrillator on the exterior of the building, giving access to the life-saving device to the entire community.
As an important public space which is used by a cross section of the community for small and large scale events, it is vital that we keep everyone who visits us as safe as possible. As there is no public parking provision at the theatre and street parking can be limited, we feel having one accessible to our visitors, but also to local residents and commuters to the area as vital.
High profile incidents over the last few years have shown how important quick intervention of cardiac arrest is, a cardiac arrest can happen to anyone. Every minute without defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by 10%. Calling 999 and administering immediate treatment with CPR and a defibrillator before the paramedics arrive, gives the victim the best chance of survival, increasing success rates from 6% to over 74%.
The government has invited community organisations to bid for funding for an automated external debrillator (AED) for their area. We are hoping to purchase the defibrillator and training as part of the government's drive to equip the health system with the right technology to ease pressures, reduce backlogs, cut waiting lists, and to improve public access to care when they need it.
As part of the grant award, applicants should be placed in areas where they are most needed such as places with high footfall, vulnerable people, rural areas or due to the nature of activity at the site.
We are looking to hold a number of fundraising events to help generate the 50% match funding we need and hope that we can count on your support. If you have any business links or ideas to help us, we’d love to hear from you. Our target for this device will be £ 750 (RRP. £1,500) - can you please help us?
Could you or the company you work offer a small donation? We really do want to add this lifesaving external Defib to our theatre first aid kit, which will be housed externally and available to local residents. Any support you can offer, would be most appreciated.
