The history of political upheaval in Myanmar has forced thousands of families to leave their homes and enter Thailand seeking a safety and the chance of a better life. In the poor migrant communities of Thailand children are vulnerable to abandonment, exploitation, abuse and human trafficking.

Safe Child Thailand has been supporting a safe house for orphaned and abandoned children in Tak province since 2008.

The safe house provides a safe, loving but basic shelter for 90 refugee children aged 0-18 years old. Most children come to the safe house malnourished, unhappy and emotionally traumatised. Many of them have lost their parents. Others have been abused or neglected. The safe house provides shelter, education, food and sanitation. It keeps the children safe and off the streets. But your help is needed to improve living conditions.

The children are currently cramped into a small and noisy 3 bedroom house. The building provides little privacy and is in desperate need of maintenance.

In 2014 we launched our Let’s Make Room appeal to build a brand new home for the children. Rising costs have forced us to launch a second phase of the appeal and we need your help to finalise the project.

To date, we’ve purchased and levelled the land, started building the boys’ dormitory and bathroom, dining hall and living area and installed sewage and electricity systems. This progress is fantastic but there’s still much more to achieve to enable the children to safely move from their current overcrowded accommodation. We urgently need your help to raise the estimated costs for the following developments:

£30,500 for a Girls’ Dormitory
£20,000 for a wall to keep the children safe
£6,000 for a Girls’ Bathroom Block
£700 for an entrance gate
