Every year over 60,000 reports of domestic abuse are recorded by police across Scotland. This is just the tip of the iceberg and signals a nationwide tragedy that demands action. Many women do not report their experiences, and children often suffer in silence. As a result, there is an urgent need for specialist services and trained professionals who understand the complexities of domestic abuse and the trauma it causes.
Women seeking justice and support often encounter inadequate police responses, a legal process that re-traumatises and endangers them, and grossly insufficient justice. With your help we can change this.
Scottish Women’s Aid is the lead organisation in Scotland working to end domestic abuse. We are both a children's rights and a women's rights organisation at the forefront of advocating for changes in policies and laws to ensure both women and children are protected. We campaign tirelessly for better understanding and recognition of domestic abuse issues at every level, from government decision-makers to frontline workers. Your support enables us to amplify the voices of survivors and influence the change that’s so urgently needed.
- We directly campaign to institutions and leaders for policies and laws that address the drivers of women’s inequality and improve responses to domestic abuse. This work makes women and children safer and helps them disentangle themselves from their abusers.
- We provide training to public and private bodies to educate them on how to effectively respond to survivors, which reduces survivor trauma and increases their safety.
- We raise the profile of domestic abuse nationally and internationally so that domestic abuse is treated like the critical threat to human rights that it is.
- We host Scotland’s 24-Hour Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline to ensure help is always available while actively supporting a network of 33 specialist local Women’s Aid services that directly support and provide refuge and help to women and children affected by domestic abuse
Your donations are critical to all of this work and will go towards rebuilding women and children’s lives. Please donate today to ensure we can continue this vital work. Now more than ever, your support is needed to help the thousands of women and children across Scotland who are experiencing domestic abuse. Every pound makes a difference.
