Shepton Mallet Collett Park Charity
South West
Collett Park Charity is responsible for maintaining Collett Park, a recreation ground in Shepton Mallet gifted to the town in 1906.
Collett Park was gifted to the town of Shepton Mallet by John Kyte Collett in 1906. It is believed that as a boy, John Collett, was told off for playing in the fields that were privately owned at the time. After many years the land started to be auctioned off and John Collett accumulated several lots of land and presented them as a gift to the town as the park that we know and love today. Every year, Collett Park Festival celebrates the giving of this wonderful gift to the town. The park boasts a play area, playing fields, a boating pond and stream, fitness equipment, wooded areas, a bandstand and more. The park is beloved by local residents and visitors, offering open green spaces ideal for relaxation, leisure and exercise in the heart of Shepton Mallet. The park is number to a rich flora and fauna, including many species of trees and birds. In recognition of its well maintained grounds and facilities, Collett Park has been awarded Green Flag status since 2018. Collett Park charity is the body responsible for the maintenance of the park as a recreation ground for all of Shepton Mallet's residents. The charity is held in trust by Shepton Mallet Town Council.
