Buffalos & Bluebirds
Signed Cody print and flown philatelic cover, together with signed philatelic first day cover.
A flamboyant Wild West showman, S.F. Cody arrived in Europe in 1890, claiming to be the son of the well-known William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. In fact the two were unrelated… However, Cody did go on to undertake the first powered aeroplane flight in Britain, on l6th October, 1908 and it is this flight which our print depicts. One of only 30, it is signed by Dame Vera Lynn, Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown and two of the great, great grandsons of Colonel Cody. Bidders may wish to look upon this Lot as in investment opportunity - the generous donor of this item reports that one of these prints realised £2,5OO at auction. Your lot also includes two philatelic covers. The first was produced for, and flown on, the anniversary of Cody’s flight. The second is a first day cover commemorating the First World War, also signed by Dame Vera Lynn.
