We need your help to enable us to develop wider public interest in the Society’s important resources, historic collections and scholarship through a series of public exhibitions, lectures and learning programmes. We want to open up Burlington House, itself a significant historic property, to a broad range of new audiences by focusing on historical material of national importance and bring the work of the institution over 300 years to a new audience and helping to scope options for future exhibitions and greater public benefit. Our museum collection as a whole is significant for the way that it reflects the history of the Society as an institution and the wider history of collecting before the introduction of national galleries and museums in Britain. Before national collections were even envisaged, donors gave to the Society paintings, artefacts of archaeological and social significance, books and manuscripts that collectively told the story, or stories, of our history.
