Here at Somerset Film we are passionate about passing on skills, providing access to creative resources & expertise and enabling participants of all ages and abilities to have a voice.
In 2003 we opened The Engine Room in Bridgwater, an accessible community media centre and unique resource in the country. The centre co-ordinates all our activity across the county as well as providing a cafe with Internet access and facilities including licensed cinema, studio and edit suites. Activities include Drop Ins (free public access sessions), courses, screenings, networking events and much more.
Originally conceived as a three year experiment (!), we are delighted to still be here, and in rude health! With the help of friends and supporters we plan to take The Engine Room to the next level, building on the opportunity afforded by our 99 year lease to create a new, enhanced centre for creativity and communication.
With your help we plan to take The Engine Room to the next level!
Building work has now finished on phase one of our expansion thanks to support from Arts Council England, Sedgemoor District Council and Bridgwater Town Council. This money has helped fund essential foundation and structural work and has green-lit a fit out for a multi-purpose space on the ground floor.
We now need your help to secure the second phase of this exciting development. Can you help us to raise the next £80,000 to get us to the next floor? This money will be used to provide an all important lift and staircase to the first and second floor, where we aim to provide a new community meeting / learning spaces and a further studio space.
