Hello, we're South East Dance!
We're a Brighton-based arts charity, whose vision is a world where everybody can create, take part in and enjoy dance in all its forms.
Our mission is to make dance happen for everybody. Dance that is bold and diverse. Dance that helps us make sense of the world we live in. Dance that makes a difference.
We want everybody to experience the positive effect dance can have, and actively promote dance as a way of creating happier, healthier, more connected communities.
So how do we do this?
By working with artists who are committed to taking creative risks, pushing boundaries and challenging perceptions of what dance is and can be. We support artists at all stages of their careers – providing them with commissions and performance opportunities; and offering free career advice and professional development programmes.
And by bringing dance into the lives of more people, especially those who find it harder to take part in creative activity. We want people to explore and discover their own relationship with dance, and work with them to create the type of activities they want.
Central to our mission is The Dance Space, a new home for dance in the South East. Opening in July 2022, The Dance Space will not only be a major new regional centre for professional dance, it will be a thriving community hub, offering an extensive year-round programme of classes, workshops and performances for every body.
All this is achieved with an annual grant from Arts Council England, which goes towards supporting our artistic and community programmes. We are also grateful to many trusts, foundations, businesses and private donors for their generous investment in our work.
But sadly, it’s still not enough.
And that’s why we’re asking for your support. You can help us give even more people across the South East region the chance to create, take part in and enjoy dance in all its forms.
