Alhamdulillah, we have managed to obtain planning permission to build the Islamic Centre in Dalton In Furness. We managed to raise £160K to pay for the land and legal formalities. In Sha' Allah for the next phase we are planning the following:
-Detailed architectural drawings approved by the council (to start the site work)
-Site cleared and secured
-Services on site
-Lay the foundation for the build
South Lakes has a small muslim community of approximately 100 families with access to a prayer room within the Furness General Hospital. The closest mosque is in Lancaster which is an hour’s drive. We do not have any facilities for the 5 daily jamaat, madrasa, jaanazah, or social space dedicated for muslims in the area. Although this is an area of outstanding natural beauty with a very good overall living standard, we see a very high attrition rate of muslim families. The aim of this centre is to act as a focal point for spiritual and social requirements of the muslims and the wider community within South Lakes, also serving the muslim tourists travelling to the lakes. The centre will be situated approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the edge of the Lake Windermere.
