Joseph Rowntree Theatre Ltd manage a Grade II Art Deco listed theatre. A board of Trustees manage operations with the help of over 150 volunteers.

Built by Rowntree & Co for the benefit of their employees and the local community at large we have always been at the heart of the community in York. The theatre is used by a core of over 35 local amateur and professional organisations, some twice a year. These are groups that need the facilities we uniquely offer with the only alternatives being expensive large commercial theatres or small venues that cannot offer the same facilities or audience capacity. By providing user groups with hiring options that enable professional standard entertainment at affordable prices we fulfil the need for people to be able to access the arts, interact socially and develop skills and confidence by taking part in theatre and volunteering activities. Our 150+ volunteers are aged 16 to over 90.
