With a captivating history and magnificent architecture, Winchester Cathedral has been a living place of worship and welcome for over 900 years.
We have a skilled team of stonemasons who devote their time to restoring and preserving the fabric of the building to ensure future generations can continue to use and enjoy it.
The challenges of conserving, restoring and sustaining the beautiful building and estate are immense as the Cathedral is vulnerable to wind, precipitation, pollutants and the everyday wear and tear of visitors. It requires continuous work from a proficient and experienced Works Department to work on the continuous maintenance and repair required so, as well as developing the skills of its existing workforce, the Cathedral undertakes the training of new apprentices.
Major work is urgently required to the South Aisle. This long-term project, which will take many years, includeS extensive repairs to the masonry and conservation of the stain glass windows.
Please show your support, which is both greatly needed and appreciated, by feeding the wonderful carved stone figure (the grotesque) so expertly carved by the stonemasons.
