We are a devoted, friendly team here at the Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre, close to Dumfries in South West Scotland.
The centre was originally opened in March 2003. With strong support of locals, the local media and residents of Dumfries and Galloway, a registered charity was set up (SCO31991).
Our rescue centre covers the whole of Dumfries and Galloway but, when space permits, we will take in dogs from pounds in England and from Northern Ireland to save them from destruction.
We also have a contract with our local council to look after stray dogs while they wait to be reclaimed by their owners. If they are not claimed, we will rehome them. We are licensed by the local authority for the care of dogs.
Alongside this, we take in welfare cases, on referral from our local social services department and other agencies. This means that we provide temporary care for pets during a time of personal difficulty for their owners. We microchip all our rehomed dogs and provide this service for others.
In 2018, the 4000th dog was rehomed from our centre. We are very proud that there are so many people whose lives have been enriched by the companionship of our dogs. Our website has enabled us to reach out beyond Dumfries and Galloway and we have rehomed dogs from as far afield as Orkney to Dorset!
