Chopwell Wood is a community woodland with a fantastic group of volunteers, an active Friends of Chopwell Wood group who both work alongside Forestry England to manage the 360 acres of woodland boasting walking, running and cycle trails, horse riding routes and a picnic area for people to have safe and enjoyable days out in the Wood. In addition the Wood provides a unique location to provide a wealth of events and activities for all to enjoy.
It’s proximity to local communities, it’s wealth of history, and the people that have lived and worked in and around the area have made the woodland rich with character.
We look after more land and trees than any other organisation. We are a public body, but we receive limited public funding and generate most of our revenue ourselves. The money we get from our valued supporters is vital with it going back into enhancing beautiful forests and woodlands, such as Chopwell Wood.
But we’re not all about trees, we are also about the people. It’s proximity to the local population means Chopwell Wood is an ideal setting to break down the physical barriers to accessing the nation’s forests. There is something for everyone from the daily dog walkers to the keen mountain bikers, and our aim is to increase our reach to more diverse customers.
Any money donated, will help to support our Feel Good in the Forest programme aimed at encouraging people to become more active, increase confidence, help maintain a healthy weight and alleviate symptoms of long term health conditions.
We use every pound wisely with money helping to pay for specialist instructors to engage those with poor mental health, those with lifelong medical conditions to access the wood and participate in a variety of structured activities to improve their overall wellbeing. From adapted cycling to archery your money helps us to provide opportunities for all to experience everything the Wood has to offer.
Without your support we wouldn’t be able to offer this. Thank you for your valuable contribution.
