As hot weather and heat waves are here to stay, the temporary portable air conditioning units we have been using are just not a sensible solution long term and not very cost effective.
New units will also have the added benefit of providing heating during the winter months and will replace the very old and inefficient heat pads and radiant heating that was installed when Gables was built many years ago.
The cost for these commercial units to be installed in the buildings most needed is £19,000. This will provide cool air in the summer months and warm air during the winter.
General Manager, Claire Sparkes said “We are looking to our wonderful supporters to help us continue to provide the care and best living conditions we can for our vulnerable dogs and cats. The brachycephalic (flat faced) breeds really struggle in the heat and we always worry about our residents anytime we have a heat wave. The staff do their very best to keep our animals cool and always come up with new ways to do this but it is time to take that worry away for good. It is a lot of money to ask for but we feel it is so important to keep our animals safe and comfortable now and for many years to come. Any amount you can donate is so appreciated and we know that lots of small donations really do add up”.
If Gables is lucky enough to raise more money than is needed for this appeal it will go towards helping the animals in our care.
