Harewood’s Ferry made its maiden voyage in June 2018 and every week since then it has carried thousands of Harewood visitors across the Lake, ensuring that more visitors can access the Bothy and Walled Garden.
Accessibility is very important to us at Harewood and the Ferry is a vital part of enabling our visitors access to more of our extensive gardens and landscape. It has also become a beloved part of the visitor experience here and we know it is much missed if ever out of action due to issues caused by the weather or for much-needed maintenance.
In 2024 the Ferry underwent extensive repairs including new stainless steel cables fitted to ensure it could run smoothly and keep future maintenance to a minimum. In addition to this work, which was done in partnership with Pennine Cruisers of Skipton, it costs the Harewood House Trust £70,000 every year to maintain and run the Ferry. We are keen to ensure that the Ferry remains part of your visit and a free service but we very much welcome donations from happy customers to help us keep the Ferry running for everyone.
