This is a far-reaching project that will enhance our historic buildings, gardens, woodlands and parkland; provide a warm welcome to all our visitors and ensure that we remain relevant and are accessible to all.
A place for nature: We are not just providing new, contemporary gardens to the south of the house but increasing the biodiversity value of our landscape through planting of species that create excellent habitat for birds, insects and other wildlife living here at Harewood. We also have ambitions to maximise the potential of the Walled Garden and to pass on vital skills to grow the next generation of gardeners and naturalists.
A place for playfulness: Harewood House is the kind of place where memories are made, where people come together to socialise and have fun. A place full of adventure and exploration, for recharging your batteries and escaping for a while. Our new bespoke outdoor adventure play area will introduce inclusive and natural play spaces that encourage a connection with nature and a spirit of adventure for kids aged 3 to 80!
A place for a warm welcome:We are transforming our Bakehouse into a place for people to meet, eat, drink and be introduced to all that Harewood has to offer. This will allow us to give visitors the warmest welcome and make maximise the potential of this stunning Grade II listed building, as well as confronting Harewood’s complex history and our ongoing commitment to deal with the legacy of the slave trade in Britain today.
Throughout our development programme we will be consulting with visitors, including those with specific needs, putting inclusivity at the heart of our thinking and ensuring that Harewood House is a welcoming, accessible and enriching experience for all.
