We know that arts and culture can have a huge, meaningful impact on lives - whether through improving mental health, decreasing loneliness or providing people with access to fantastic arts experiences and opportunities in the wonderful villages and landscapes of the Holme Valley.
Situation
Many people in Kirklees are socially and culturally isolated. 1 in 5 adults reporting depression, anxiety or other nervous illness, 1 in 10 people having a physical or sensory impairment, 1 in 3 people suffering from a limiting long-term condition and the number of people with learning disabilities is increasing each year Over 50% of people are overweight or obese and 23% of people in the Holme Valley reported not having someone to talk to about their problems (higher than the Kirklees average)
Solution
We will engage groups of socially isolated/disabled Holme Valley residents in a range of creative community activities between June - Sept 2024 including a community co-created outdoor art trail, a guided country walk with music and craft activities, an autumn lantern parade culminating in music, dancing and socialising, a social singing project, an outreach project with people with disabilities in residential care homes, and support groups to attend our free to access Festival Weekend.
