The children in Melvich Community Council area have no play parks available to them and need to travel to get to the next nearest play parks. There are no amenities for the children in our area and we want to rectify that.
Melvich Community SCIO's charitable object is: "To provide, or assist in the provision of, facilities for the recreation or other leisure-time occupation, in the interest of social welfare in an effort to improve the conditions of life of the inhabitants of the district of Bighouse, Melvich, Portskerra, Golval and Kirkton, all in the Parish of Farr." A sub-committee of Melvich Community SCIO has been established to progress improving Portskerra Play Park.
Portskerra Play Park is located on Mackay Terrace in Portskerra. It is close to Melvich Primary School and the Melvich football field. The Play Park was closed by the Highland Council in 2020 and all of the equipment has been removed as it was unsafe. There is about 560 square metres (6028 square feet) of land area associated with the Portskerra Play Park area. Portskerra Play Park is currently owned by The Highland Council and a community asset transfer request has been submitted to transfer the ownership of the play park.
Please donate as much as you feel comfortable donating, and as often as you like, to help us raise funds to support the Melvich Community SCIO's play park sub-committee to deliver on the replacement of the play parks for our children (and the children of those visiting the area). To bring in grant funding, the funders will look at how much we have been able to put forward financially to the project ourselves, so every penny counts to help us get there (and then maintain the play park(s) in the future).
Please share this campaign and encourage others to donate too. Thank you very much.
