Polar Bears are facing an uncertain future, and they need our help now more than ever. As the planet warms and Arctic ice melts away, these magnificent animals are struggling to survive.
Polar Bears rely on sea ice to hunt, breed, and navigate their territory. However, due to rising global temperatures, their habitat is disappearing at an alarming rate. With fewer places to hunt and less ice to roam, Polar bears are being forced to travel greater distances in search of food - often coming into contact with human settlements, leading to dangerous confrontations. Without urgent action, these incredible animals are at risk of becoming endangered.
By donating today, you’ll be directly supporting vital conservation efforts, including Arctic habitat protection, rescue and rehabilitation, and groundbreaking scientific research. Every donation, no matter the size, helps secure a future where Polar Bears can thrive in the wild. The clock is ticking, and every moment counts. Without intervention, we risk losing polar bears to climate change forever.
Support Polar Bears International on International Polar Bear Day
Polar Bears International founded International Polar Bear Day to coincide with the time when Polar Bear mums and cubs are snug in their dens. This period is critical for survival - at birth, cubs are blind, weigh just over a pound, and have only a light layer of fur for warmth.
Families remain in their dens until spring, when cubs are strong enough to endure the Arctic conditions. Sadly, only about half of all cubs reach adulthood, with survival rates even lower in the most vulnerable populations. Protecting these denning families is essential to securing the future of polar bears.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the WildLife Foundation are committed to safeguarding Polar Nears. We have previously sponsored groundbreaking research to understand their psychological needs, helping to improve the lives of Polar Bears both in the wild and in human care. The insights gained from this research have been implemented to enhance the well-being of the Polar Bears housed at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
