The Press Red Directory is a unique and innovative approach to educating as many people as possible about abuse and violence against women. A fully online project, its purpose is to provide everyone dealing with these issues, whether professionally or personally, with reliable and comprehensive resources to enable them to find the information they need quickly and easily.
Free to access, the Directory will be a bank of links, articles and downloads, which users can search and refine to meet their individual needs. Including a members’ only portion which allows users to collaborate and publicise jobs, opportunities and events, it will also provide the opportunity to sign up to regular emails highlighting the latest developments and discussions in this field.
Through spreading research and knowledge about the harm suffered by women worldwide, as well as providing practical tools for those directly affected, this initiative will bring together many different sources of information, making it easier than ever before to bring about change.
Need for Project
Although there exists several databases containing information around this topic, they tend to be limited in terms of scope, focussing only on specific countries, types of abuses, or demographic of readers. Also, the survey we recently commissioned revealed that 90% of respondents would be interested in this initiative, with two-thirds of them confirming that they currently rely upon general internet searches to obtain information about violence against women.
The Press Red Directory will change this and reduce the need for such searching: by providing a 'one-stop' portal, it will collaborate information from various locations, enabling users to access knowledge and resources they may not otherwise have been aware of. Offering the opportunity to strengthen the work they are currently doing or the chance to obtain support for the situation they are in.
