Wells Carnival has been running, in one form or another, for well over 100 years. Our aim is to provide affordable entertainment to locals, and holiday makers, in our beautiful town of Wells-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast. Every summer (late July/early August) we bring an exciting programme of family fun, made up of around 100 events over 10 days. Events include live music nights, an open-air cinema, afternoon tea, food & craft day, a fete, raft race, fun run, competitions, workshops etc culminating with our traditional Carnival Day with its colourful procession around the town featuring floats, fancy dress, pull and push along vehicles and much more.
In addition to providing family entertainment, we also use Wells Carnival as an opportunity to assist local charitable groups by providing them with a free platform to promote and fundraise for themselves. A bucket collection takes place during the Carnival procession and this, along with proceeds from Carnival funds, is shared between local charitable groups at our AGM in October. In 2023 we donated (in conjunction with Holkham Charitable Foundation) over £14,500 shared between 29 local, not for profit, organisations. Many of these groups would struggle to continue without this much needed boost to their finances each year.
The voluntary Carnival Committee aka ‘the Crew’ spend almost a year planning the event. In addition, they take part in smaller fundraising events, throughout the year, to help towards the cost of putting on Wells Carnival.
Funding the event is always a challenge – pitch fees, raffle proceeds and fundraising throughout the year only covers a very small percentage. We rely on sponsorship and donations from businesses and individuals to fill the shortfall. We are aware that times are hard now, making it even more important for us to keep our 10-day event affordable for all. We would therefore kindly ask if you could afford to contribute, even just a small amount, to help us in our efforts we would be extremely grateful. Without your support we would be unable to do what we do! THANKYOU
