We have identified a gap in provision and development across communities and sectors within Wester Ross, that has a very strong Gaelic history and, it is to be hoped, a strong future as a distinctive part of the Gàidhealtachd.
The Gaelic heritage of the area was an instrumental part of the successful nomination process to the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme, and we recognise and value the importance of Gaelic in our communities and in our lives.
We are conducting research and carrying out consultations whilst working in partnership with our communities, partners and stakeholders to write up and deliver a Gaelic language policy and a Gaelic language Plan.
We have employed a Gaelic Development Officer, Mairead Bush, who is based in Ullapool. She is working hard to deliver various Gaelic Projects so we will be able to continue to ensure Gaelic is seen as relevant to all the people who live and visit here. We hope that this contributes positively to sense of place and inclusion in the cultural heritage of the area to promote a vibrant future for generations to come.
